DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CBD AND MARIJUANA

If you are here, I am guessing that you are now familiar with the term CBD (cannabidiol) but you may still be unsure what the difference is between hemp-derived CBD and Marijuana is. Many people often ask how it is that they will not get a high from CBD, if it comes form cannabis?

Good question...

CBD derived from hemp does come from the cannabis plant but it is NOT marijuana. The difference is that hemp plants contain no more than 0.3 percent (by dry weight) of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), the psychoactive substance found in marijuana. By comparison, marijuana typically contains 5 to 20 percent THC.

CBD is best used as an alternative means for pain relief without the euphoria, and more importantly, without the risk of addiction. While marijuana is rich in psychoactive tetra-hydrocannabinol (THC), hemp produces mostly a non-euphoric cannabidiol (CBD.)

CBD oil is a cannabinoid derived from the cannabis plant. Hemp and hemp derived products are legal under the Farm Bill, as long as their THC content is less than 0.3%.

You CANNOT get high on hemp!

CBD is an essential component of medical marijuana, it is derived directly from the hemp plant, which is a cousin of the marijuana plant. While CBD is a component of marijuana (one of hundreds), by itself it does not cause a “high.” According to a report from the World Health Organization, “In humans, CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential…To date, there is no evidence of public health related problems associated with the use of pure CBD.”

In the U.S., people looking for pain relief often turn to opioids, popular because they can effectively block the pain receptors in your brain, but there are two major downsides: numerous side effects and a very real likelihood of addiction.

Gabriella Gobbi, professor of psychiatry and researcher in the Brain Repair and Integrative Neuroscience (BRaIN) Program at McGill, reported that CBD, being free from side effects, is a safe alternative to prescription drugs for pain relief, without the “high” associated with THC.

The pain-relieving effects of the cannabis plant (Cannabis sativa L.) are 30 times more potent than aspirin for decreasing inflammation, according to scientists at the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada.

According to an article in Harvard Health Publishing: "CBD has been touted for a wide variety of health issues, but the strongest scientific evidence is for its effectiveness in treating some of the cruelest childhood epilepsy syndromes, such as Dravet syndrome and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS), which typically don’t respond to anti-seizure medications. In numerous studies, CBD was able to reduce the number of seizures, and in some cases it was able to stop them altogether. Videos of the effects of CBD on these children and their seizures are readily available on the Internet for viewing, and they are quite striking."

One of the most powerful things abut using cannabis or hemp-related products is that "using cannabis, especially when it’s so successful in bringing relief, is that it’s a natural (not synthetic) substance that could reduce the out-of-control addiction rates now being acknowledged by both the medical and law enforcement communities. Plus, as noted by Medical News Today side effects from CBD use are neither harmful nor lethal.  The most common side effect was tiredness.

CBD is readily obtainable in most parts of the United States. All 50 states have laws legalizing CBD with varying degrees of restriction. Currently, many people obtain CBD online without a medical cannabis license.  According to the Farm Bill passed on Dec. 20, 2018, it is legal for farmers to grow industrial hemp for the first time since Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the “Marijuana Tax Act of 1937.

PURE CBD VS. EPIDIOLEX

If you haven't heard all the talk about CBD oil everywhere, you soon will.  CBD (Cannabidiol) is derived directly from the hemp plant, which is a cousin of the marijuana plant.  It is one of 113 identified cannabinoids in cannabis plants and accounts for up to 40% of the plant's extract. It is NATURAL. It comes from a PLANT!

Some people use CBD topically, some take it via sublingual method, others like to add it to their post-workout smoothie or drink it with their morning coffee. There is even hemp-derived CBD coffee.

Regardless of how CBD oil is taken, the important thing to note is that it should be extracted directly from a hemp plant, not synthetically modified or have any fillers or extra oils (ie: MCT oil, sunflower seed oil etc...)   It is also important to mention that according to a report (2017) from the World Health Organization, “In humans, CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential….to date, there is no evidence of public health-related problems associated with the use of pure CBD.”

The most important thing to remember is that the CBD you purchase should be PURE! This is why it is so vital to know where you are getting your CBD from.

CBD talk has indeed become the latest trend and it has also been on the forefront of the news media.  This is good and it can be bad.  The lack of education and research leads to a lot of misconceptions and rumors, as well as articles that can scare the pubic.

Recently, an article came out in Forbes magazine saying that CBD may be harmful to your liver.  What they don't focus on and what the general public may not know is that the study they did was based on a synthetic form of CBD.  It was a study on Epidiolex, which is a CBD-based drug that is used by Big Pharma and is approved to treat two rare forms of epilepsy, Dravet syndrome and Lennox-Gestaut syndrome.

Epidiolex is the first synthetic CBD-based version drug actually made from the plant , which is FDA-approved and sold in the U.S. However, the plants used are grown at a facility in the U.K.  Often times a doctor will prescribe this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit is greater than the risk of side effects. The most common side effects of Epidiolex includes: sleepiness, elevated liver enzymes, decreased appetite, diarrhea, rash, fatigue, insomnia, and infections. This does not happen to all patients but it is a possibility.

This does NOT happen with natural, pure hemp-derived CBD.

Epidiolex is an oral solution that is a clear, colorless to yellow liquid containing cannabidiol at a concentration of 100 mg/mL. The average price for a year of Epidiolex treatment is about $32,500, CNN reports. The inactive ingredients contained in Epidiolex include dehydrated alcohol, sesame seed oil, strawberry flavor, and sucralose.  This is NOT pure hemp-derived CBD, but of course because it is FDA-approved it will be quite profitable for Big Pharma.

My point is, it is unfair to make a judgement or assumption on CBD based on a study of something that is synthetic and produced by Big Pharma (ie: Epidiolex!)

Just remember to do your own research, read, and make sure that what you choose is as natural as possible.  People should have a right to choose plants over prescriptions!

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HEMP AND MARIJUANA?

http://www.HempWorx.com/HempWorxIBO
Many people often confuse the two and don't really know the difference.  Scientifically, industrial Hemp and Marijuana are the exact same plant, with a genus and species name of Cannabis Sativa. They have a drastically various hereditary profile though. Industrial Hemp is constantly a stress of Cannabis sativa, while marijuana can be Cannabis sativa, Cannabis indica, or Cannabis ruderalis. The significant distinction is how commercial hemp has actually been reproduced compared with a marijuana form of Cannabis sativa. Generally speaking, industrial hemp is really fibrous, with long strong stalks, and hardly has any flowering buds, while a marijuana pressure of Cannabis sativa will be smaller sized, bushier, and filled with blooming buds. However, more recent industrial hemp ranges in the USA are being bred to have more flowers and greater yields of cannabinoids and terpenes, such as Hempworx's Kentucky hemp now utilizing!
99% of the time marijuana has a high amount of THC and just a really low quantity of CBD. Hemp, on the other hand, naturally has a really high quantity of CBD in many circumstances, and only a trace amount of THC
Thankfully, the cannabinoid profile of hemp is ideal for people trying to take advantage of cannabis without the ‘high.’ Hemp is utilized for making organic supplements, food, fiber, rope, paper, bricks, oil, natural plastic, and so a lot more, whereas cannabis is generally used simply for recreational purpose, spiritually, and medicinally. The term marijuana oil can describe either a marijuana or hemp obtained oil, because marijuana and hemp are 2 various kinds of marijuana.
In the USA, the legal definition of commercial hemp," per Section 7606 of the Agricultural Appropriations Act of 2014, is "INDUSTRIAL HEMP– The term "industrial hemp" indicates the plant Cannabis sativa L. and any part of such plant, whether growing or not, with a delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol concentration of not more than 0.3 percent on a dry weight basis."
